L.A. Reid has officially stepped down from his post as President of Def Jam. In a letter to his staff sent out today, he boasted how proud he is of his roster of talent, and says he has decided to leave his position.
Mr. Reid will judge Simon Cowell's new U.S. "X-Factor" show. And he would have to step down from his position at the conflicting label.
“Great leaders are almost always great simplifiers, who can cut through
argument, debate and doubt, to offer a solution everybody can understand.”
“To my Island Def Jam family: After much consideration, I have decided to leave my position as Chairman of the Island Def Jam Music Group.
“I have always thrived on growth and the next great challenge, and I look forward with much enthusiasm to what the future holds.
“I am extremely proud of our beautiful roster and all we have accomplished in my seven years with IDJ. We continue to have incredible success together with today’s most phenomenal superstars - Rihanna, Justin Bieber, Mariah Carey (she reportedly will follow L.A.), Kanye West, Bon Jovi, Jennifer Lopez, Ne-Yo, Rick Ross, The Killers, The-Dream, Chrisette Michele, Jeezy and Ludacris to name a few.
“I want to thank all of you for your amazing contributions.
“With Warm Regards -
An announcement about L.A.'s new judging duties with the Sony affiliated show "X-Factor" should come very soon in the coming weeks.
S/O The YBF for the Letter!
(Reuters) - Music executive Antonio "L.A." Reid stepped down from his job at Island Def Jam Music on Thursday and was widely reported to be headed for a judging job at upcoming TV talent show "The X-Factor",
Reid, 54, who helped Justin Bieber, Usher and P!nk become stars, resigned as chairman of the Island Def Jam record label, telling staff in a memo leaked to the media that he was looking forward "with much enthusiasm to what the future holds."
Reid's resignation came a day after The Hollywood Reporter said the music producer would be joining Simon Cowell as one of four judges on the U.S. version of "The X-Factor."
Entertainment industry website Deadline Hollywood reported that Latin singer Enrique Iglesias had been approached to host the singing talent show when it makes its U.S. debut on Fox in the fall of 2011.
Fox, the network behind the show, declined to comment on the reports.
The acerbic Cowell, who quit "American Idol" last year to work on bringing his "X-Factor" to U.S. television, is offering a $5 million prize to the winner of the new show.
Cowell has said in recent weeks that his old "American Idol" sparring partner Paula Abdul is on his short-list for a place on the program, in which judges will take a leading role in mentoring contestants.
Singers Mariah Carey and Jessica Simpson, and former Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger, are also said to be in the running for a spot on the panel.
Earlier this year, rival network NBC snapped up singers Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green, Maroon 5 rocker Adam Levine and country star Blake Shelton as "coaches" on its singing talent contest "The Voice", which debuts on April 26.
