Curren$y Files $1.5 Million Lawsuit Against Damon Dash For Dropping Unauthorized Albums (BLOG)

Curren$y is taking Damon Dash to court for releasing his music without his permission back in 2010. Spitta is looking to pull $1.5 million from Dash to cover for the damages he claims the releases have caused, but Dash has accepted the challenge and already asserted that he had legal rights to release the records at the time.

Dash and Curren$y were in talks to put out Spitta’s music through Dash’s DD172 media project, but the two never closed the deal which, according to Curren$y, didn’t stop Dash from releasing two of his album’s without executing a contract. Curren$y ‘Pilot Talk’ and ‘Pilot Talk II’ were both used to build hype for Dash’s and managed to garner success on the charts when ‘Pilot Talk’ debuted at number 39 on the Billboard 200.

But Curren$y was set on signing up with Warner Bros. Records and says that he had inked a deal with the label before Damon Dash put out his albums, which cut into the exclusive rights that Warner had over Spitta’s work. In addition to claiming that he’s suffered losses due to Dash continuing to release is music, the rapper is hoping that the suit will prevent Damon Dash from putting out any more of his music on DD172.

According to Dash, he’s done nothing wrong and the Roc-a-Fella cofounder has already shot back at Curren$y saying that the rapper left him in the dark when he signed up with Warner, although it’s currently unclear what sort of damages Dash is looking for in his countersuit.
