FRESNO, Calif. — A trio of bad apples allegedly tried to poison their fifth-grade teacher with rat poison — not once but twice.

The students, two aged 10 and the other 11, might have never been caught had a parent not bragged that her son saved the teacher’s life by knocking the poisoned coffee cup out of the teacher’s hand. The woman’s son was allegedly the mastermind behind the poisoning plot that took place two months ago.

The Fresno Teacher’s Association claims the incident happened at Balderas Elementary the week before Christmas break. Another time, the trio allegedly doused the frosting of a cupcake with rat poison, however the teacher never ate it.

According to KMJ News, the boy told a female classmate to bring in some rat poison left over from work being done at her house because “we have rodents too.”

Another student said the reason why the trio attempted to poison their teacher was because they disliked how strict the teacher was.

The two boys and one girl believed to be responsible were transferred to another school which regularly enrolls expelled students. A teacher there publicly stated he thinks the kids should be charged.

“I believe the police should press criminal charges,” David Cross said. “They’ve openly admitted they’ve done it.”

According to CBS 47, the Fresno Teacher’s Association claims the Fresno Unified School District has a history of covering up incidents when teachers have received death threats by students or been beaten by them.

Fresno Teacher’s Association President Greg Gadams told KMJ News that “a systematic ‘lack of action’ on the part of Fresno Unified breeds these problems because they provide nothing for these students beyond disciplinary action.”

It’s unclear at this time what disciplinary actions the school will take.
