The 48-year-old actor told reporters at a Cannes Film Festival press conference Tuesday that he and fiancée Angelina Jolie, 36, aren’t in a rush to officially tie the knot.
“We actually, really and truly, have no date,” he said of their much-anticipated nuptials. “It’s just something that makes sense to us, and certainly datewise, it’s just a rumor.
“We’re still hoping that we can figure out marriage equality in the states before that date.”
The Hollywood hotshots have long stood by their statement that they won’t get married until all couples can legally do so, but earlier this year, the pair announced their engagement, which they said came about at the insistence of their six children.
A source told Us Weekly that 10-year-old Maddox, the couple’s eldest son, spearheaded the push to get the two to the altar.
“Brad pleaded and said that everything else in the kids’ lives is not normal,” the source told the magazine. “He added that they travel constantly, they are always in different houses and different schools.
“They needed to give the kids one thing in their life that is normal, and they are asking for this. He said they should do it for them.”
Pitt met Jolie in 2005 on the set of “Mr. & Mrs. Smith,” back when he was still married to Jennifer Aniston.
Asked if he would want to work on another film with his new fiancée, Pitt told reporters, “Yeah, we’d love to.”
