(RTTNews) - Apple Inc. (AAPL: News ) Monday unveiled new versions of MacBook Pro and MacBook Air with features such as Intel chips and faster graphics as the tech giant takes on the intense rivalry in the notebooks arena.

Apple also announced the availability of its advanced operating system OS X Mountain Lion next month, which comes with an array of innovative features and has iCloud built into it.

At its annual developers conference, Apple announced its all new 15-inch MacBook Pro notebook featuring impressive retina display, all flash storage, quad-core processors, and weighing just 4.46 pounds.

"The MacBook Pro with Retina display pushes the limits of performance and portability like no other notebook," said Apple CEO Tim Cook.

"With a gorgeous Retina display, all flash architecture and a radically thin and light design, the new MacBook Pro is the most advanced Mac we have ever built," Cook said.

Its 15-inch MacBook Pro is available with a 2.3 GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 processor with Turbo Boost speeds up to 3.3 GHz, 8GB of memory and 256GB of flash storage starting at $2,199, and upwards. A 13-inch version comes with a 2.5 GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 processor, 4GB of memory and 500GB hard drive starting at $1,199, and upwards.

Apple also updated its MacBook Air. The 11-inch MacBook Air comes with a 1.7 GHz processor, 4GB of memory and is available with 64GB of flash storage starting at $999, and upwards. The 13-inch version comes with a 1.8 GHz processor, 4GB of memory and is available with 128GB of flash storage starting at $1199, and upwards.

Apple further said its OS X Mountain Lion advanced desktop operating system will be available in July as a download from the Mac App Store for $19.99. Mountain Lion introduces more than 200 innovative features including the all new Messages app, Notification Center, system-wide Sharing, Facebook integration, among others.

The company also previewed iOS 6, which will be available to iPhone, iPad and iPod touch users this fall as a free software update. New features include an all new Maps app with Apple-designed cartography, turn-by-turn navigation; new Siri features, including support for more languages, easy access to sports scores, among others.

AAPL is trading at $581.54, up $1.22 or 0.21%, on a volume of 12 million shares.
