Frank Ocean's Channel Orange continues its journey to becoming one of 2012's most successful albums, as it sets a new chart record...
The LP, made available online last Tuesday ahead of its official CD release next week (July 23), has become the first in history to chart inside the UK Top 20 based solely on download sales.
It shifted an impressive 13,173 copies and managed to chart at No2, just 3,500 behind Newton Faulkner's victorious Write It On Your Skin, which logged 16,647 sales - the lowest number for any album this century to debut at No1, replacing Marina and the Diamonds' Electra Heart (21,358).
Before Ocean's Channel Orange, the album that had sold the most copies without any physical CDs whatsover was Slash's Apocalyptic Love, which debuted at No27 with 4,527 downloads.
It's a quiet week for new releases this week, with only Elton John vs PNAU's Good Morning To The Night receiving substantial press, leaving Channel Orange free to continue its impressive winning streak.
Can it climb up a spot to No1?
