(CNN) -- More than $60,000 worth of computers and personal items have been stolen from the Palo Alto, California, home of the late Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, according to news reports.

Kariem McFarlin, 35, of Alameda was arrested and charged with residential burglary and selling stolen property, according to a report in the San Jose Mercury News. He remains in the Santa Clara County jail on $500,000 bail pending a court hearing on Monday, the report said.

The break-in apparently occurred July 17, although details and McFarlin's subsequent arrest August 2 are now just becoming public. It's not known whether Jobs' widow, Laurene Powell, or other family members were home at the time.

CNN was working Tuesday to confirm details of the break-in and arrest. An Apple spokesperson contacted by CNN declined comment.

McFarlin could face a maximum prison sentence of seven years and eight months, Santa Clara County prosecutor Tom Flattery told the Mercury News.

Flattery declined to say whether the computers and other items belonged to Jobs or another family member, the newspaper reported. The prosecutor said McFarlin was likely unaware of the home's significance.

Jobs, the longtime Apple CEO, died in October at age 56 after a long bout with cancer.
