Los Angeles construction workers have discovered that their site can double as an archeological dig after they found numerous precious fossils while preparing to carve out a new subway tunnel.
A number of marine fossils have been found in the area near the famous La Brea Tar Pits. In just the pre-construction phase scientists have found numerous small fossils as they dug 70 feet into the earth.
"We expect that we're going to find large deposits of late Ice Age vertebrate remains, so across the street at La Brea Tar Pits we have hundreds of thousands of fossils and we find the remains of saber-tooth cats, dire wolves, horses, bears," paleontologist Aisling Farrell told ABC News affiliate KABC-TV.
