LeBron James was supposed to wear a mask to protect his broken nose for another week, but he ditched it entirely Sunday against the Bulls without medical clearance. James had the greatest offensive performance of his career wearing the mask — exploding for 61 points against the Bobcats last week — but James told the Sun-Sentinel that it was “uncomfortable” to wear, and may have affected his play in two consecutive losses. James broke his nose February 20th while dunking over Oklahoma City’s Serge Ibaka.
In four full games with the mask, James averaged 33.6 points per game and shot 62.5 percent from the field, but a poor outing against the Spurs Thursday may have been the last straw. James shot just 6-for-18 in a blowout loss, and removed the mask in the first quarter of the game.
