Sad news out of Sochi.
One of the stray Russian puppies that Olympic skier Gus Kenworthy tried to rescueduring the 2014 winter games died before leaving the country.
Gusworthy's friend and photographer Robin MacDonald, who was working to get the pups to the States, shared the sad news via Twitter several days ago. "No words can explain what has happened here, good bye little guy, we will miss you. Heading home on Tuesday," MacDonald wrote with a photo of himself holding the adorable brown and black pooch.
He followed up by responding to a concerned fan, writing, "she died, they refused to let me bring her to get treatment."

While one puppy has sadly passed away, Kenworthy and MacDonald successfully rescued five other stray dogs from Sochi (the pups' names are JakeRosaMishkaMom andStryder). The boys and their band of four-legged friends traveled by plane from Russia back home to Denver where they were treated by the Humane Society.
"We are all ok, and made it to America! A big thanks to the best 5 travel companions one could ask for," MacDonald tweeted the other day with a photo of one dog resting on the airplane.
He shared another adorable photo of two of the pups covered in soap suds, writing, "Bath time with Mishka and Jake. @HumaneSociety @TODAYshow."
Too cute.
