Microsoft is considering Xbox 360 emulation on the Xbox One, Kotaku Australia reported from Microsoft's Build conference in San Francisco.
When an audience member asked Microsoft partner development lead Frank Savage about the possibility of an Xbox 360 emulator on the next-gen console, Savage responded:
"There are, but we’re not done thinking them through yet, unfortunately. It turns out to be hard to emulate the PowerPC stuff on the x86 stuff. So there’s nothing to announce, but I would love to see it myself."
Backwards compatibility has been a point of contention for the Xbox One and Sony's PlayStation 4. Sony has announced plans to stream PlayStation 3 games using the PlayStation Now service.
Former Xbox boss Don Mattrick knocked backwards compatibility, stating that “if you’re backwards compatible, you’re really backwards.”

Mattrick left for Zynga in July 2013 and Xbox has a new leader in Phil Spencer, perhaps with a different stance on backwards compatibility.
Microsoft has yet to comment further on Xbox 360 emulation on Xbox One.
