Within the next ten years the U.S. Navy won't have to dock for fuel. Yesterday Navy officials announced they've developed a process to turn sea water into fuel by extracting carbon dioxide and hydrogen gas. Experts say the technology could be installed in ships within the next decade. "It's a huge milestone for us," Vice Adm. Philip Cullom said.
No kidding. The Navy will be able to undertake longer missions without having to refuel. The technology also eliminates a potential vulnerability by shortening the supply chain. Eliminating a military's fuel source would be a crucial blow. And then let's not forget about the environmental advantages of not having to mine, ship, or pipe in oil.
