NEW YORK – In an appeal from the pulpit, the Rev. Al Sharpton is demanding justice for a man who died after an apparent police chokehold.
Sharpton also said Sunday that citizens who kill police officers should be held accountable.
Sharpton spoke at Manhattan’s Riverside Church three days after the death of Eric Garner on a Staten Island street.
The officer who appeared to choke Garner has been stripped of his gun and badge.
Sharpton said it was equally wrong for a New Jersey man to fatally shoot an officer last week. The man’s loved ones said he should have killed more officers.
Garner’s struggle with a group of officers was recorded on video showing the father of five repeatedly telling police he couldn’t breathe. He died shortly after.
Sharpton says NYC chokehold death and attacks on police officers both deserve justice
