The Dreamville crew trekked to Baton Rouge, Atlanta, Ferguson, Cole's father's hometown of Jonesboro, Arkansas, and his native Fayetteville to showcase the struggles of everyday men and women in present-day America. The rapper also included several musical vignettes for songs from his Billboard 200-topping album of the same name including "Neighbors" and "Change."
4 Your Eyez Only marks Cole's second documentary with HBO following 2015's Forest Hills Drive homecoming special.
