After getting sick from a bacon cheeseburger during the mad cow disease epidemic, Philadelphia resident, Lamarr Ingram, made a decision to cut beef, pork, and chicken from his diet. He wanted to go full vegan but found that there was a lack of options in Philly’s inner city in the mid 90’s.

Just three years ago he was able to transition to a full plant-based lifestyle and now he is bringing more options to his community in West Philly.

“I believe people are looking for healthy options,” Ingram said in a statement to The Philly Inquirer. “We want to introduce it to the community and let people experience it.”

There will mostly be salads and sandwiches, including a salmon burrito and burgers made with Impossible Burger meat. Items like the ‘When Smokey Sings’ (caramelized onions, barbecue sauce, long hots, and house-made slaw on a brioche bun from Baker Street) and a chickpea burger samosa (chickpea patty with curry, apricot chutney, lettuce and tomato, and fries on the sandwich) are just a taste of what you can expect when you stop in.

The restaurant will open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily. To learn more, you can check out the Instagram page: @veganishphilly.
