The words “Coach K Court” are right on the floor, so it’s clear Mike Krzyzewski makes the rules. And that apparently includes no chants ...
And that apparently includes no chants directed at the opposing coach, however innocent, and especially if that person is one of Krzyzewski’s former players and assistants at Duke.
Tuesday night, Pitt coach Jeff Capel was being serenaded by the Cameron Crazies during the first half. It caught the ear of Krzyzewski, and he was having none of it, even telling them to “shut up" and being held back by a referee.

When the Cameron Crazies started chanting at Jeff Capel (Pitt's head coach and a former Duke player), Coach K was not having it.

The chant of “Jeff Capel, sit with us” was too much for the 72-year-old Blue Devils coach.
“I don’t know if I made a mistake on that, but I’ve never heard another coach’s name yelled out in the middle of the first half when we’re in a war with the team,” Krzyzewski told reporters afterward. “I don’t know if they were saying, ‘Come sit with me.’ We got a different look at what the hell was going on. I thought it was something personal. ... I apologize to the students for that.
“So it’s a mistake on my part, but I’d rather make the mistake and protect my guy. Let’s think of a different cheer — like ‘Defense!’"
Capel played for Duke from 1993-97 and was an assistant coach from 2011-18. Pitt is his third stint at being a head coach, with previous stops at VCU and Oklahoma. He took Tuesday night’s antics right in stride.
