A new David Lynch film – starring the man himself – has just arrived on Netflix to the surprise of everyone. It’s been three years since...
It’s been three years since the director released Twin Peaks: The Return and, since its conclusion, fans have been wondering when a new project from the director would be announced.
It should be noted that the black-and-white film, titled What Did Jack Do? is not new – according to The Playlist writer Kevin Jagernauth, it premiered in Paris back in 2017 – but it suggests that the streaming service could be testing the waters to see whether its subscribers are fans of the Mulholland Drive director.
If it performs well, could it add Lynch’s back catalogue to its collection or event be tempted to sign an exclusive deal with him? Fingers crossed.
Fans of Lynch will be happy to know the short is as bizarre as they are probably hoping – it follows a police detective (Lynch) who interrogates a talking monkey about a murder he may have committed.
Jack the talking monkey also seems to be as much of a fan of coffee as Dale Cooper from Twin Peaks. “I ordered coffee about a half hour ago,” he bellows at one stage.
Lynch’s Blue Velvet is the only other one of his films that ca currently be watched on Netflix. His other credits include The Elephant Man, Eraserhead and Inland Empire.
