From Skrillex to Tame Impala to Kendrick Lamar, the "Divergent"soundtrack is one of the most diverse of the year so far. Inspired byKanye West's Yeezus and stitched together by Wes Anderson's favorite music supervisor, Randall Poster, this state of affairs should come as no surprise.
A cadre of songs that are tightly woven into the fabric of the upcoming film — and held together by Ellie Goulding, who serves as the voice of main character Tris — the soundtrack dropped Tuesday (March 11), just weeks before the film.
'Divergent' Music Supervisor Breaks Down The Soundtrack
MTV News asked Poster about some of the film's most unexpected match-ups and tracks: Tame Impala and Kendrick Lamar's "Backwards," Pia Mia's "Fight For You" (featuring Chance The Rapper) and M83's "I Need You."
Find out what he has to say about the making of the jams in the video above, as well as what that mysterious sample is in "Fight For You."
For more on the soundtrack, make sure to tune in to "MTV First"tonight at 7:53 p.m. ET for the premiere of Goulding's "Beating Heart" video as well as an appearance by "Divergent" stars Shailene Woodley and Theo James.
